Wachten op de eerste echte sneeuw

Het is zover, de eerste sneeuw zal straks vallen. Na de natte regensneeuw van enkele weken geleden, komt nu het echte werk eraan. Het Canadese KMI heeft voor het eerst dit seizoen een SNOWFALL WARNING de wereld ingestuurd. Rond de middag trekt de sneeuwstorm voorbij, men voorspelt 10 tot 20 centimeter. Dat lijkt gigantisch veel, maar dat is een milde storm naar Canadese normen. Op de wegen werden gisteren al preventief zoutlijnen getrokken (speciale techniek) en de buurman was zijn snow thrower aan het testen. We zijn er klaar voor. Spannend …

A developing low pressure system approaching from the Southern United States will move northeast to lie southwest of Nova Scotia by Wednesday evening. By Wednesday morning snow at times heavy will begin to fall in Southwestern New Brunswick and will spread eastward reaching Moncton by noon. 10 to 20 centimeters of snow is currently forecast for Southern New Brunswick. Along parts of the Fundy coast the snow will be wet and heavy or it could be rain. In particular for Grand Manan Island, where 30 millimeters of rain is currently forecast.

  1. Gebruiken jullie daar in Canada het metriek stelsel? Dergelijke "snowfall warnings" in de VS hebben het altijd over het aantal inches.
